For this week’s topic, I have selected the blood disease: Sickle cell anemia. I have selected an article “Sickle cell disease history” which was published by Yolanda Smith. In this article, she mainly focused on the history of sickle cell disease (SCD) and the origin and how it is formed. It is mainly a red blood cell disorder which is inherited genetically from parent to the offspring. In 1910, Dr. James Herrick firstly gave a description of sickle cell disease by examining the blood film of the affected patient. He showed the shape of red blood cells, hemoglobin and also the feature of sickle cell anemia. From an younger patient Dr. Herrick was confirmed about the characteristics of the sickle cell disease and after that in 1911, from the blood sample of a 25 years old female, he understood and described the symptoms of the sickle cell anemia
